Italian rider Loris Capirossi, "Capirex", is the most experienced riders on the MotoGP grid. Beginning his World Championship racing career in 1990 with a 125cc debut season that clinched the title, and a repeat performance the next year, Loris made the move to the quarter liters by 1992. With two World Championship titles already under his belt, he went on to prove his superior riding ability during the next three years by bringing home a total of 16 podium finishes for Honda. Runner-up for the 250cc title in 1993, and bronze-medalist in 1994, it was time to make the move to MotoGP's 500cc category.
His first 500cc year earned him the title of Rookie of the Year, still aboard a Honda. In 1996, Yamaha wooed him into their camp. Although his first 500cc victory was won that year with Yamaha, Capirossi decided to make the move back to the quarter liters with Aprilia. Two seasons later, he claimed the 250cc World Championship title.
Signing on with Honda once again and back into the 500's, Loris collected 15 podiums and a victory before switching to Ducati in 2003. Ever improving, by 2006 he found himself 3rd overall in the Championship and consistantly topping the leaderboard, running square with Nicky Hayden until the infamous Catalunya crash. 2007 was Capirossi's last year on the Big Red Duc before joining the Suzuki paddock.
Plagued again with crashes and injuries in his maiden year with Suzuki, one solitary podium in Brno and a 10th place overall standing closed out 2008. 2009 found him still riding for Suzuki attaining many top-ten finishes and claiming the 9th spot in the final championship standings. In 2010, Loris remained with Rizla Suzuki and rode with new teammate Alvaro Bautista helping the former 250cc superstar launch his MotoGP career.
2011 finds Capirossi reuniting with Ducati as he teams up with frenchman Randy De Puniet for Pramac Racing.
