June 30, 2006 - Suomy helmet contest and FP1 at Donington

Suomy and Road RacerX teamed up this year and sponsored a contest for MotoGP fans to design Loris Capirossi's helmet for the 2006 Red Bull GP at Laguna Seca. The winner was promised an all-expense paid trip to the race, a pleasant meet-and-greet with Lord Loris, and after the race, Loris would peel the sweaty lid from his head, sign it, and hand it over to the winner to take home.... a definite one-of-a-kind. How exciting!!! I'm sure lots of you guys out there would like to meet Capirossi, but to spin it from a chick's point of view.... there are underlying bonuses.... BIG ONES! So, needless to say, I signed up and submitted my design. Alas, I was not the chosen one. Here is my design that I submitted:

Here is a link to the winning design (I tried to save the pics so that I could stick them on here, but I failed miserably). Kudos to the designer... it was very well thought out and loaded with symbolism. Helmet Design Winner According to Road Racer sources, Loris chose the design personally. Some of the other designs (a.k.a. the losers, or for you kinder, gentler readers, the "runners up") will be shown on the Suomy site in the coming weeks.

In other news, the MotoGp boys are practicing at Donington for this weekend's race. Rossi is doing quite well considering his injuries from his biff last week. He posted the 7th fastest lap today during practice... ahead of last week's winner at Assen, the Hayden who is knownst as Nicky. The free practice today resulted as follows:
