July 22, 2006 - Part II - Laguna Seca qualifying results

Qualifying went off without a hitch this afternoon. It was a drama-free, solid round... extremely pleasant to watch :) The pole is a little different this time around! Oh, how I do love variety. Chris Vermeulen wowed us with his supreme control over that big blue Suzuki and landed in the top spot for tomorrow's race. Good on ya Chris!! Colin Edwards head up the American riders with a front row start, followed by fellow statesman Kenny Roberts, Jr, who's grid position comes as no surprise following his consistently solid performance through all three practice sessions. Hayden will start from the second row in 6th position, Stoner will launch from 7th, and Rossi 10th. There is an eerie calm surrounding Rossi's start. If it were anyone else starting from the 4th row, I would be hard pressed to picture a podium finish, but I have absolute faith in Rossi, and I do believe he can pull it off. The riders will do their warm up tomorrow morning, and the green light shines at 5 tomorrow evening... I can't wait!!!

Here's the finishing order and grid positions for tomorrow's race:

1 Vermeulen
2 Edwards
3 Roberts, Jr.
4 Pedrosa
5 Hopkins
6 Hayden
7 Stoner
8 Nakano
9 Melandri
10 Rossi
11 Checa
12 Elias
13 Capirossi
14 Tamada
15 de Puniet
16 Gibernau
17 Hofmann
18 Ellison
19 Cardoso

It's time for me to retire for the evening. There's a pleasant storm rolling in and I am going to take advantage of it! I am up and out early tomorrow morning heading for Gainesville International Speedway to run the Moose around the road course... yippee!! I will have laptop in tow, so if I don't make it back before race-time at Laguna, I can watch the feed from the track.

Until next time......

Rubb'er Down :)
